Tryouts will be held for Select boys soccer from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at the Central School field.

An orientation meeting for parents and prospective players begins at 6 p.m. Wednesday prior to the tryout session.

The age groups include:

U-12 (only boys in the fifth- and sixth- grades).

U-13/14 B (boys in middle school).

U-13/14 A (boys in middle school with high skill levels).

Each team will have a maximum of 18 players.

The prerequisite requirements include at least three years of experience in recreation soccer (UCYSA) beyond micro, attendance at one or more soccer camps during each of the previous three years and a commitment to a competitive Select program that requires consistent effort in practice and in games. A lack of effort or non-attendance will result in diminished playing time.

At the tryout sessions, the boys will be tested on a variety of skills. Selection and placement on teams will be based upon skill performance at the tryouts and the judgment of the coaches. All boys wishing to be considered for Select must attend the tryouts.

If chosen, registration is $75, which covers insurance, league referee fees and team equipment. In addition, if a player does not have a uniform ready or needs a new one, they will need to purchase one at $22 for a jersey, $22 for shorts and $14 for two pairs of socks.

Practices will be held twice a week at 5 to 6:30 p.m. on either Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday. The first practice will be Monday, Sept. 3, and the first game is on Saturday, Sept. 8.
