ENTERPRISE A festive market with entertainment is planned this Labor Day Weekend at the Wallowa County Courthouse Square in Enterprise.

Adjacent First Street also will be blocked off.

The Wallowa Valley Country Market is designed to be broader than a farmers market. It will showcase home-crafted and home-grown products including handwoven and dyed rugs, wood crafts, and carvings, lavender products, and pine needle baskets.

Handmade soaps, herbal products, candles, water fountains, fiber art, local and regional books and holiday gifts and decorations also will be featured.

From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday vendors will show their wares from Northeast Oregon and the surrounding region. The first 25 registrants included Walla Walla produce growers.

Saturday will feature entertainment including Charlie Trump and the Old-Time Fiddlers from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Bob Casey & Friends from 1 to 2 p.m., and Marya Nowakowskis Middle East Dance Troupe from 2 to 3 p.m.

On Sunday local artists will demonstrate their crafts from painting to fabric art.

This country market is a test-run for a series of markets planned at least every other weekend from Memorial Day to Labor Day in 2002.

Country Market is being sponsored by the Enterprise Hometown Improvement Group. That organization will have a booth at the fair featuring corn on the cob, historical videos and barn tour books.

Additional vendors will be accepted as long as there are vacancies. A space fee of $10 per day or $15 for both days will be charged.
