The La Grande Main Street Program and Grande Ronde Roadrunners are sponsoring an event that will give people a chance to explore downtown, get some fresh air exercise and share in some community goodwill.

In the first 5K Stroll and and 10K Run, scheduled for April 9, walkers and runners will follow a route designed to showcase recent building upgrades, streetscape improvements and future projects.

The 5K Stroll will wind its way through the downtown district. With a walking map in hand, participants will be able to see first-hand the many improvements brought about through the Main Street Program.

In addition, downtown merchants will have their doors open and stand ready to greet participants with vouchers, coupons, snacks and beverages.

The Liberty Theatre will also be open for those wishing to take a peek back in time.

All participating businesses will be identified by colorful balloons on race-day. All walkers and runners will be entered into a drawing to win one of several door prizes.

And, for those strollers who visit the highest number of downtown businesses, a special raffle will take place for the premier door prizes.

For runners, the 10K event will both begin and end in the downtown district. Runners are eligible for all door prizes as well as the business coupons and vouchers.

“No matter if you are speedily running through the district or leisurely enjoying the hospitality of our merchants, there is something for everyone,” said Jerrimi Hofman of the City of

La Grande’s Community and Economic Development Department.

The cost of the event is $10 for the entry fee, $20 with a T-shirt. Entry fees are tax deductible.

All proceeds benefit La Grande Main Street, a non-profit organization working to improve the downtown business district.

For registration forms or more information visit www.lagrandemainstreet.org. Registration forms can also be picked up at Benchwarmers Pub and Grill.

The race begins at 10 a.m. Pre-registration is appreciated. However, registration on the day of the event is acceptable.
