Thankful to be here

To the Editor:

I feel blessed to be a part of the community we call Union County.

Last year, on the night of July 2, while riding my motorcycle to work, I was involved in a horrific accident. I was life-flighted from the scene to Portland. It was determined I had crushed my pelvis and both wrists. I received crushing trauma to my left eye socket and forehead as well as various other injuries. I was in Portland for 40 days before being allowed to return home.

Immediately after my accident, people of this community stepped forward without being asked and started lending my family a hand.

There was a whole group of people who came to my home and split and stacked a large pile of wood I had recently cut for firewood. Volunteers worked in my garden and yard. Someone donated a wheelchair ramp and installed it in front of my house. Someone else donated a power wheelchair.

There were gifts of money and food, help with my children, kind words and prayers. I could go on and on with how much this awesome community helped my family and me.

I have had the chance to thank many people, yet I know I have missed many. So many on one level or another helped me. I think of the fine paramedics who were on the wreck scene; the wonderful people of the city of Union; the awesome parishioners of Union First Baptist Church; and all my co-workers and friends at Grande Ronde Hospital.

We live in a fantastic community. I am so thankful to be a part of it.
