Donald J. Anderson

Formerly of La Grande


Donald J. Anderson, 81, of Fruitland, Idaho, and formerly of La Grande, died Jan. 27 in Caldwell of natural causes. Cremation services are provided by Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell.



Kathryn M. Holley

La Grande



Kathryn M. Holley, 94, of La Grande, died Dec. 2 at her home. Recitation of the rosary will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in La Grande.

Kathryn was born Feb. 23, 1917, in Los Angeles to Clarence and Bessie (Cades) McGraw. She grew up in Southern California and graduated from South Gate High School. After attending Compton Junior College and Long Beach State College, she received her teaching degree.

Kathryn married Chesley Edwin Isaacs and they raised their children in Downey, Calif. Both Kathryn and her husband were teachers. Chesley died in 1956 at the age of 42.

Kathryn was employed by the Bellflower school system as an elementary school teacher, and the San Jose school system where she served as a teacher for the deaf and hearing impaired. She also was a teacher at Graton Elementary School in Fall River Mills, Calif.

Kathryn was a multi-media artist. She especially enjoyed painting animal portraits in watercolor. Kathryn enjoyed hand knitting and gardening and was an avid reader. She enjoyed golf.

Kathryn was a member of the Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Grande Ronde Hospital Pink Ladies, and was a hospice volunteer in Coos Bay.

Kathryn is survived by her two children and their spouses, Glenn and Jackie Isaacs of Daphne, Ala., and Barbara and Terry Bates of La Grande; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Chesley; her parents, Clarence and Bessie; and her brother, Dr. Thomas McGraw.

Kathryn died in the presence of her family, caregivers and her dog, Abby.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Grande Ronde Hospice and Marian Academy at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, in care of Loveland Funeral Chapel,1508 Fourth St., La Grande, OR 97850.



Helen E. Windsor



Helen E. Windsor, 83, of Enterprise, died Jan. 25 at Wallowa Memorial Hospital.
At her request, she will be cremated and a memorial graveside service will be held in July at Enterprise Cemetery. Bollman Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.


Florence T. Grage

La Grande


Florence T. Grage, 99, of La Grande, died Jan. 30 at a care center. A full obituary will be available later. Loveland Funeral Chapel & Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.



Glavis A. Reed

La Grande



Glavis A. Reed, 82, of La Grande, died Jan. 25 at home in the care of his family. A celebration of life for friends and family will be held later.

Glavis was born in Bend on Dec. 10, 1929, to Glavis “Montie” and Frances (Bilodeau) Reed. His early childhood was spent in Bend. In 1943, his family moved to Dufur where he graduated from Dufur High School in 1947. 

Glavis enlisted and served one year in the U.S. Army Tank Corps as a tank driver. After active duty, he served several years in the Oregon National Guard.  

Glavis married his high school sweetheart, Evalee McConnell, in May of 1950. They were together for 61 years and raised four children.

Glavis was a third-generation logger, becoming a partner with his father in G.H. Reed and Son. They operated in Dufur and La Grande. In 1962, he moved to Dubois, Wyo., and formed Wind River Logging Company. He logged in the Rocky Mountains until returning to the Grande Ronde Valley in 1983.

Glavis retired due to health reasons but continued enjoying his love of logging through two more generations of family loggers. He also maintained an active interest in Blue Mountain Auto Parts, a family-owned business.

He is survived by his wife, Evalee; and four children, Monte Reed, Jerry and Nancy Reed, Rick and Halli Reed and Lorna Reed Omann and Mark; and honorary son, Ed Frazer. He also had 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Jacob Reed; and daughter-in-law, Laura Reed, Monte’s wife.
