Higher ground

To the Editor:

The people of Elgin need to know that young people have as much right to state their opinions as others do. You may not agree with their opinions.  You may think young
people are shallow and easily influenced. You are wrong!

From the beginning the Elgin PAC has been a diverse group. Our youngest member is 20 and our oldest member is 78. We have people from all walks of life involved in the effort to make Elgin a safe, trusted community to live in.  We have professionals, retired folks, students, disabled, farmers, house wives, truck drivers, unemployed,  and business owners. When these folks meet, letters get written!

The steps our neighbors have taken to discredit Elgin PAC are impressive. They have made extreme personal choices. They have lied, stolen and destroyed property,
pointed fingers, made personal attacks and whined like babies. The real question is why?

The answer appears to be that there are no facts for these folks to stand on. They cannot deny our petition statements. They cannot disprove our reliable sources. The best thing they can do to sway the vote at this point is to throw blatant sensationalism into the pot. That is pathetic.

My best advice to the Elgin Vote-No committee and their good ol’ boys is let it go. Your whining is making you look bad. Either find some facts to stand on or keep quiet. Elgin has enough problems without you stirring up trouble with more juvenile antics.

I am proud of the way our group has handled this. I am proud of the fact that we do not steal Vote No posters. I am proud of the fact that we do not attack letter writers. I am proud of the fact that we stand on higher ground.
