Letters and comments for February 17, 2012
End Elgin bickering To the Editor: Back in the 1950s, I played country music around Elgin. I worked for several years at Lloyd Anthony’s Texaco service station, and came to love Elgin and had many friends. Most are gone now, but I just loved Elgin and it hurts to see such bickering, back-biting and so much arguing and bickering. Please, Elgin people, sit down quietly and talk. Settle this bickering and work at keeping the lovely town it once was. I remember when Soapy Davis came in from the Lookingglass, he’d stay overnight doing his business. Now, Soapy never had a place to stay overnight, so the police chief let him sleep overnight in a cell. Now, that’s the kind of Elgin I would like to see again. Roy Hills Island City
