LOCAL FUNERALS AND VISITATIONS



April 14 — Juanita Fitzpatrick, celebration of life, 2 p.m., 
Elgin Stampede Hall; reception follows


Floyd Bates, 85, of Cove, died April 5 at his home. Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center is in charge of the arrangements.


Allen E. Collins, 89, of Wallowa, died April 7. A service will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lostine Cemetery. A full obituary will be available later. Bollman Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Ruth Kilgore, 96, of Enterprise, died April 7 at a local care center. A full obituary will be available later. Loveland Funeral Chapel & Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.


Theodore Joseph “TJ” Nelson, 65, of La Grande, died April 4 at Grande Ronde Hospital. Family and friends are invited to gather together for a prayer Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at Riverside Park with a reception at Bud Jackson’s Sportsmans Bar & Grill immediately following.

He was born May 26, 1946, to Dale Nelson and Grace O’Neil Nelson in Klamath Falls. He graduated from Bly High School and then enlisted in the United States Navy and served two tours in Vietnam.

He worked as an electrician and came to La Grande in 1977. In 1984, he moved to Sandpoint, Idaho. After a few years he traveled to various places including Seattle, Alaska, Hawaii, Texas and Arkansas before returning to La Grande in 1995.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, water skiing, snow skiing and boating.

Survivors include his wife, Tanya Nelson of La Grande; daughters, Amy Nelson of Chico, Calif., Angela Rash of Las Vegas and Tiffany Nelson of Las Vegas; step-daughters, Jess Branco of Walla Walla, Toni Branco of La Grande, Dana Megargee of Elgin and Lisa Megargee of Bend; six grandchildren; brother, Gilbert Griffin of Spokane, Wash.; brother-in-law, Kevin Winger of Waitsburg, Wash.; sister-in-law, Nidra Winger of Malibu, Calif.; mother-in-law, Gloria Winger of Waitsburg, Wash.; and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his son, Theodore Joseph “Jake” Nelson in 1994.

Memorial contributions to the TJ Nelson Memorial Fund will be accepted in care of Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center, 1502 Seventh St., 
La Grande, OR 97850.
