Let us view dogs

To the Editor:

I recently stopped at the Blue Mountain Humane Association animal shelter to drop off some dog biscuits and chew sticks.

I was hoping to spend some time there and give each dog some attention and love. I asked if I could walk through and view the dogs. I was told no.

Their reason was: “It stresses the dogs out too much.”

Isn’t being in a cage just as stressful? The volunteer suggested I view pictures of the available dogs up for adoption and she would bring any one of them out.

All of my dogs have been rescue/shelter animals.

Never have I, or would I, choose a dog from a picture.

I feel it was important to see how they act in the kennel. Are they happy, nervous, friendly, curious?

I was deeply saddened and shocked by the shelter’s policy.

I wonder how many dogs have lost out on being adopted because people have not been allowed to view them all.
