Jerold ‘Jerry’ Klinglesmith

La Grande



Jerold “Jerry” Hogan Klinglesmith, 87, of La Grande, died April 7 in Portland. Viewing will run from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center, 1502 Seventh St. in La Grande. The funeral will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at Daniels-Knopp with burial to follow at Grandview Cemetery.

He was born Jan. 11, 1925, to James Lorenzo and Rachel Belle (Beene) Klinglesmith in Lindsay, Okla. On April 12, 1947, he married Betty Lorraine Woodard. They moved to La Grande over 50 years ago and he worked as a truck driver for Boise Cascade until his retirement. Betty preceded him in death on June 28, 1997. 

He enjoyed singing and playing the guitar. He liked trucks and planes.

Survivors include his daughters and their spouses, Barbara Kay and Lowell Smith and Jeanette Rachel and Jim Conner; and several grandchildren and their spouses. He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Ivy Loesch, Joe Klinglesmith, Ruth Hannah, Glynn Pannell, Carl Klinglesmith, Hazel Hamilton and James Klinglesmith.



J.R. Green

La Grande


J.R. Green, 76, of La Grande, died April 4 at a local care center in La Grande. No services have been planned at this time. Loveland Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

J.R. was born Jan. 26, 1936, in Lake City, Tenn., to Charles Lee Green and Lena (Freeman) Green. He was a former resident of Elgin.

J.R. is survived by three children, William H. Green of Elgin, Deborah L. Pasilis of Portsmouth, Va., and Rebecca Green of Crescent City, Calif.; and several grandchildren.



Bertha C. Peterman

La Grande



Bertha Clarise Peterman, 93, of La Grande, died April 13 at a local care center. At her request, there will be no public funeral services. Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery. Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center is in charge of the arrangements.

Bertha was born Dec. 6, 1918, to Thomas and Katie Marvel (Easley) Garret in Joplin, Mo. She came to La Grande when she 12. In September of 1936, she married Gerald Peterman. He preceded her in death on Sept. 15, 1997. She was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church. She enjoyed knitting and sewing in her younger years.

Survivors include her sons, Gary and Daniel Peterman, both of La Grande; two grandchildren; and other relatives. She was preceded in death by one sister and four brothers.
