Great kids in Cove

To the Editor:

My husband and I are visiting your communities for a few months by volunteering for Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Part of our retirement plan is to learn more about areas that we have previously visited on vacation. We have made an effort to get involved in the activities of the people and towns in the area.

On May 4, we spent an evening at the Cove Future Farmers of America awards banquet. What a delight it was seeing young people who are so helpful, kind and polite. The parents of these FFA members must be very proud.

The youngest FFA members served and cleaned up at this free meal and were very nice as they went about their work.

A silent auction served as the fundraiser for activities for this coming year.  To support the organization and the kids, we bid on several items. When it was time to pay for our auction items, we discovered that we had not brought our checkbook.

The FFA coordinator, Mr. Koehn, told us not to worry about it, they would hold our items and we could come back on Monday to pay for them. We had bought two cakes and Mr. Koehn sent those home with us.

When we went back Monday we were helped by a young woman named Brittany who was a part of the FFA program. What a delightful young woman she was. The school had set our auction items aside and everyone was very helpful in settling our account. Brittany explained that Ms. Maxine Peterson had baked the cakes we bought. Maxine is a fantastic cook.

We had a great time at the Cove FFA banquet. All the community values we hold dear were on display at this event and afterward in the way we were treated.

Blessings to you, Mr. Koehn, and all the kids, parents and supporters of FFA and the town of Cove for raising what seems like a great new generation of young people interested in agriculture with a strong set of family values.
