Fun events in La Grande

To the Editor:

The City of La Grande is excited about upcoming events in our beautiful city.

Many people are involved in the planning and scheduling of several exciting events this spring and summer.

These events are family friendly and promise to showcase the city to visitors. The talents of the citizens, in many areas, will shine bright.

Thursday through Saturday, there will be a new event in La Grande called Springfest.

During the four-day event, there will be performances of “Titanic, the Musical” at EOU; the annual Ag and Timber Parade downtown; the opening day of the La Grande Farmers Market; and a music, art and food festival called Hootenanny.

There will also be the Ladd Marsh Birdathon, the Art of Flight at the Art Center at the Old Library and the Third Thursday Art Walk. What an exciting and fun-filled four days.

At 11 a.m. June 3, the community is invited to the Soroptimist Breakfast at the newly rebuilt Riverside Park pavilion.

There will be a ribbon-cutting and celebration of the community coming together to rebuild the iconic pavilion.

The Soroptimists, along with many, many people and businesses in the community, spearheaded the fundraising for the rebuild.

There were grants that city employees worked hard to get and all that together has resulted in a beautiful facility for the whole community.

The annual Fourth of July celebration is being planned for Community Stadium from 7-10 p.m. on July 4.

Raffle tickets will be sold, and donations given to raise the $8,000-$9,000 needed for a fantastic fireworks show.

There will be entertainment, food and fun at the stadium followed by a great fireworks show.

Everyone enjoys the fireworks from many locations and we ask everyone to help honor our country with a donation or by purchasing some raffle tickets.

There are many great prizes to be won in the raffle.

Daniel Pokorney

Mayor of La Grande
