ECHO — The Cove High School football team fell to Echo 54-42 Friday in non-league play.

The Leopards led 28-18 at the half but injuries caught up to the team in the second half.

Playing without its top two running backs and forced to shuffle the lineup, Cove couldn’t keep pace with the Cougars over the final 24 minutes.

“Our defense was struggling to hold Echo at the line of scrimmage,” coach Shawn Parker said.

“We were juggling players on defense as well.”

Combine that with two fumbles, three interceptions and Echo successful on two onside kicks, and Cove dropped to 1-1 on the season.

The Leopards will return to the gridiron Friday when they play host to Pomeroy (Wash.) at 7 p.m.

The Pirates come into the game with a 1-1 record.
