PENDLETON — The La Grande High School volleyball team needed all five games to get past Pendleton 3-2 Tuesday in a non-league contest.

The Lady Buckaroos jumped out to an early two-set lead (25-13, 25-9), but LHS rallied and took the next three sets 25-23, 25-23 and 15-5.

“The first two games we didn’t play the La Grande way,” coach Melinda Becker said.

“We were kind of down, not celebrating. But the next three games we changed what we were doing and started having fun.”

Madison Elliott scored seven points for the Lady Tigers. She also had 22 assists, five digs and two kills.

Breanna Partney had four digs and three kills.

“Breanna really kept everything alive for us defensively,” Becker said.

Anneliese Wiseman finished with four kills, while Denise Comfort had 13 kills, 12 digs and was 98 percent on serve-receive.

Olivia Trotter scored 11 points, had eight kills, nine digs and was 100 percent on serve-receive.

And Kendall Kirkland had seven assists, three serving aces and scored the match point in Game 5 for LHS.

“It was a great team effort. The girls played tough and worked hard. Pendleton is a good team.

“This is a nice confidence booster,” Becker said.

La Grande will compete at the North Marion tournament this weekend.

“I’m not sure who all will be there, but we will see some good competition.”
