ELGIN — The Union volleyball team came out with a pair of victories at the Elgin three-way Saturday.

The Lady Cats beat Irrigon 3-1 (25-18, 24-26, 25-18, 25-20) and swept Elgin (25-14, 25-11, 25-10).

“It was a good weekend for us. Both of those teams are just going to get better as the season goes on,” Union coach Mendy Clark said.

Against Irrigon Clark lauded the play of Kelsey Walenta and Dani Sturm.

“Those girls played good ball,” she said.

In the sweep of Elgin, Bayly Poor had eight kills, while Walenta finished with seven.

“I would credit Keesha Sarman with good defense as well,” Clark said.

The Lady Cats are now 10-4 overall and 6-1 in the Blue Mountain Conference.

Union is ranked No. 9 in the latest OSAA poll.

In Elgin’s other contest, the Lady Huskies lost in three games (25-13, 25-5, 25-19).

The Outlaws rebounded with a win over Stanfield (25-19, 25-15,  26-28, 25-19),

Kylie Willis had 12 kills, while Stephanie Simpson had 14 digs.
