Lady Cats sweep Knights, Huskies

UNION — The Union Lady Cats are one step closer to a second-place finish in the Blue Mountain Conference.

Union picked up sweeps over Irrigon and Elgin this weekend and have one more game remaining Tuesday.

A win there clinches second place, while a loss drops the Lady Cats to fourth entering the district tournament.

But Union still had to take care of business Saturday, and it did just that.

In the win over Irrigon, the Lady Cats won 25-15, 25-18 and 25-19.

Dani Sturm had 12 kills, Viki McCabe had eight, Kelsey Walenta added seven and Bayly Poor finished with three.

Then against the Huskies Union ran away again, this time winning 25-17, 25-8 and 25-9.

McCabe had eight kills, Sturm added seven kills and Keesha Sarman was 100 percent digging on 18 digs.

Walenta was 19 for 19 serving with five aces.

Sarman was 19 for 21 on serve receive with 16 percect passes.

 

Outlaws split

JOHN DAY — Enterprise split with Grant Union and Stanfield this weekend.

The Outlaws lost to the Prospectors (15-25, 25-22, 23-25, 16-25) but defeated the Tigers (25-15, 25-19, 28-25, 27-25).

The split ensured EHS of fifth place in the BMC.

Against Grant Union, the Outlaws had 34 kills, led by Hayley Riggs’ 12. Kylie Willis added 11 and Elsa Steen had nine.

In the win over Stanfield, Riggs had 10 kills and 10 digs, while Stephanie Simpson had six digs.

Andrea Butterfield had three kills and six blocks, while McKenna Miller had five digs and three kills.
