Community Connection of Northeast Oregon threw a party at the Union County Senior Center Oct. 17, hosting a first-ever Customer Appreciation Day during the lunch hour.

Carmen Gentry, Community Connection's Union County manager, said the event was a success, drawing a big crowd.

“We served 150 people with a free turkey dinner, with all the trimmings,” she said. “Seniors enjoyed the music from the Blue Mountaineers, tons of door prizes were given out and many whirled around the dance floor for over an hour.”

Gentry said Community Connection holds regular appreciation events for the many volunteers who make local programs work, but never before had held an event for the many seniors who use the center.

She said more such events are in the works. Community Connection is a non-profit social service agency that assist seniors citizens, children and people with low and modest incomes
in attaining their basic needs and becoming more self-sufficient.

The agency serves lunch at the Senior Center Monday-Friday, for a $2.50 suggested donation for seniors 60 and older, $5.50 for those younger than 60. Gentry said she invites people to come and enjoy the food and the company.

“We have so much fun here at the center, dancing, singing, playing cards and much more. You will most likely see many people you know and you don’t have to be a senior to enjoy a fantastic lunch at a reasonable price,” she said.
