The Northeast Oregon Military Family Support Fund has some money to fall back on this winter thanks to a donation last week by the Union County branch of the Oregon Employer’s Council.

In a ceremony at the National Guard armory in the Blue Mountain Conference Center, Tracy Witherspoon, president of the local Employer’s Council presented a check for $2,000 to Lonnie Myers, a member of American Legion Post 43 who heads up the support fund program. Also on hand for the ceremony were, from left, Deb Gargalis, Tracie Houtz and Terri Berry.

Myers said the support fund helps local veterans and military families who are facing financial difficulties. He said the support program places an emphasis on helping those veterans and families deal with high costs of home heating.
