Community Bank’s Change for Charity Drive is back for another holiday season, taking place now in all areas the Community Bank serves.

The program, which began this year Nov. 5 and continues through Dec. 14, is an effort to collect funds from the community, to be used in that same community. Community Bank matches 50 cents on every dollar (up to $5,000). In the previous two years of the program, more than $27,400 has been given to area charities. Each branch manager has selected a charity to raise funds for that will directly benefit the citizens in the area.

In addition, there is a competition between two regions of the bank to raise the most money for their charities. Community Bank will donate an extra $1,000 to the charities in the region where the most donations are collected.  Region 1 includes branches in Wallowa, Union and Baker counties. Region 2 is Umatilla, Morrow, Walla Walla and Asotin counties.

The total funds collected
will be calculated after Dec. 14, when the winning region will be determined.

Charities to benefit in Region 1, by branch, are: La Grande Downtown branch, at 904 Adams Ave., is collecting for the Senior Center, while La Grande Valley branch is supporting the Friday Backpack Program (food for kids in need for the weekend); Baker City is collecting for all of the food banks in the Baker City area; Elgin branch, for Elgin Food Bank; Wallowa branch collects for the Wallowa Food Bank; Enterprise and Joseph branches are collecting for the Joseph/Enterprise Food Bank at Community Connections.

Region 1 results for 2011: the La Grande branch contribution/collection to The Senior Center was $604; $697 went to the Bobcat Foundation Scholarship; $1,142 was collected for the Baker City food banks; Community Connection Food Bank (Joseph and Enterprise branches) was given $1,167 from the charity drive efforts; $1,550 to the Elgin Food Bank; and $1,950 to the Wallowa Food Bank. Region 1 was not the branch competition winner in 2001 with Region 2 collecting/matching at $8,619 vs. Region 1 at $7,110.

All branches will have donation jars available through Dec.  14. Coins and bills are accepted.  Those with questions about the Change for Charity Drive
