FRUITLAND, Idaho — The La Grande High School girls basketball team had no trouble with Fruitland Friday in a non-league contest.

The Lady Tigers downed the Grizzlies 51-24 to improve to 2-0 this season.

“We played really well defensively,” coach Doug Girdner said.

“We moved our feet well and played as a team.”

Denise Comfort led LHS with 15 points. She added five assists and four steals Lexus Miller-Moylen scored 12 points.

Breanna Partney chipped in eight.

The Lady Tigers led 16-9 after the first quarter but outscored Fruitland 19-2 in the second to take a 35-11 lead to halftime.

“It was tied 2-2 midway through the first. Then we kind of took off,” Girdner said.

LHS shot 40 percent from the field for the second straight game.

“Our shot selection was pretty good.”

La Grande will travel to play Kamiakin (Wash.) Tuesday for another non-league game.

KHS was 23-2 last season at the 3A level. That equates to 5A in Oregon.

“It will be a real big challenge.

“We’re looking forward to going up there and playing a quality team,” Girdner said.
