IMBLER -— The 11th-ranked Lady Panthers will be hosting Notus (Idaho) Friday in the first action since their recent Cove Booster tournament championship win.

The Lady Pirates are coming to the Grande Ronde Valley with a 5-2 record and two victories over Jordan Valley this season.

Notus’ Julie Ledford led the Lady Pirates to a 44-30 win over Jordan Valley Saturday — the team’s second win over Jordan Valley in a week. Ledford scored 16 points in the non-conference win.

A week earlier, Notus had handed the Lady Mustangs a 52-34 loss, with Ledford scoring 17.

In addition to Ledford, the Pirates get scoring support from Stephanie Guillen, Emma Paz and Lisette Esparza.

Against Garden Valley, the Lady Pirates built a 19-3 after the first quarter

Imbler will be entering the game with a 3-1 record and only a 49-31 loss to 2A power Heppner in the season opener marring the team’s record.

Heppner is the second-ranked 2A girls basketball team in the state.

Since that loss, the Lady Panthers have logged wins over three larger schools  — 2A Elgin, 4A McLoughlin and 2A Union.

Panthers prep for Pirates

Imbler’s boys basketball team will be looking for a third straight win when it hosts the Notus Pirates Friday afternoon.

The Pirates have been led by Bryan Frahm as they have put together a 2-1 start this season.

Frahm scored 11 in the recent loss to Jordan Valley (33-30) Saturday.

He also was the leading scorer in wins over Garden Valley (Idaho) and Melba (Idaho).

In other local action, the Elgin Huskies will host Irrigon at the Eastern Oregon University gymnasium Friday, while Joseph will host a basketball tournament and Pilot Rock visits Enterprise for a Blue Mountain Conference showdown.
