Smith looks to recruit food processing firms to Baker County

BAKER CITY — Greg Smith, director for Baker County Economic Development, will attend the Northwest Food Processors Expo in January.

In its 99th year, it is the largest regional food processing trade show in North America. The event is held annually in Portland and attracts 3,000 industry professionals from around the world.

“My purpose in attending is to identify those businesses which may be an excellent fit in Baker County,” Smith said.

“I have an extensive background in this area, and it is a very good opportunity to find those companies which may be poised to expand and relocate. We have a great deal to offer businesses, and I will be sharing all of the resources and recruitment tools we have available to us, including financing options.”

Baker City Manager Mike Kee said, “We have the pieces in place to recruit good businesses here. To be able to connect with hundreds of businesses in one location right in our backyard is valuable.”

Wallowa County Chamber slates awards banquet

The Wallowa County Chamber celebrates “Wallowa County — Alive with Community Pride” at its awards banquet Jan. 27.

Tickets go on sale Thursday and may be purchased at the Wallowa County Chamber office for $30.

This annual event highlights community members who go above and beyond the call of duty to make Wallowa County a special place to live.

Old Town Café of Joseph will cater dinner, and the Elks Club will provide bar service.

Also coming soon is the chamber’s new website. The chamber chose Chamber Masters, a company that specializes in a line of services that will integrate the membership database, calendar, social media, online payment, chamber reports and referrals.

The chamber will be able to track visits and referrals from the website to member websites to see how well marketing efforts are driving people to the county.
