Allen ‘Red’ E. Wilson

La Grande

1922-2012

 

Allen “Red” E. Wilson, 80, of La Grande, died Dec. 20 surrounded by family.

Known as Red, he was born March 8, 1922, in East St. Louis, Ill. Red served for more than five years in the Army Air Corps. He was stationed in Papua New Guinea, the northern Solomon Islands and the Bismarck Archipelago during World War II, where he earned the Asiatic Pacific Medal, the American Defense Service Award, a Good Conduct Medal and a Distinguished Unit Badge with two oak leaf clusters.

After the war, Red met and married Barbara Smith. The two moved to Alaska, where they lived for more than 24 years.

Red loved the outdoors, and was happiest when hunting, fishing or hiking. He and Barb spent many hours hiking in the hills along their property at the foot of Mt. Emily. Red also loved to read nonfiction and to tell war stories with his friends.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Barbara; son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Linda Wilson of Scio; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Don Blazejewski of Oregon City; and seven grandchildren.

Union

 

Maretta Jones, 78, of Union, died Dec. 30 at a local care facility. A complete obituary will be published at a later time. Arrangements are under the direction of Loveland Funeral Chapel & Crematory.

 


   

Terrence P. Craig

North Powder

 

Terrence P. Craig, 66, of North Powder, died Dec. 26 at St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise. A memorial gathering will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at the Coles Tribute Center in Baker City.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Elks Foundation in care of Gray’s West & Company, 1500 Dewey Ave., Baker City 97814.
