Event links organizations, volunteers

“Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does.”

— William James

We’re back. Last year’s Volunteer Link, sponsored by the Union County Youth Coalition, showcased the efforts and needs of more than 58 community organizations that use volunteers

for specific events or on an ongoing basis.

Municipal groups, service and political organizations, non-profits and school programs were represented. Even with the horrible weather, more than 145 community members participated last year, networking, learning and exchanging information about all the great ways there are to get involved and support our community — and we anticipate growing each year.

Volunteer Link offers individuals an opportunity to “shop” these organizations to learn about their contribution to our community as well as how they use their volunteers. This knowledge then allows for a better “volunteer fit,” which in turn increases the length of time a person might volunteer with an organization.

Unfortunately, many prospective volunteers don’t know where to go to contribute their valuable time, energy and skills. Volunteer Link, on April 23, is designed to help bridge that gap in Union County.

If your organization is interested in reserving a table at Volunteer Link 2013, please RSVP no later than April 18.

Volunteer Link is free to both participating organizations as well as community members who attend. Volunteer Link will be held at the La Grande Middle School, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on April 23.

Check-in and set-up will begin at 3:30 p.m. Please park in the side lot (old administration building area) Note: organizations reserving a table will be asked to contribute to the refreshment table.

Some tables available

There are a limited number of tables provided, awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

When those tables are full, participants will be required to bring their own table for set-up. Chairs will be provided for all participants.

Each organization will have a full, large round table — two organizations may choose to share. We ask that there be no solicitation of attendees for any profit or non-profit fundraising efforts.

Please bring a tablecloth or covering as well as some display about your organization.

It has been suggested by community members that organizations have an example of something that a volunteer with your organization could help with as soon as possible. This might include, completing an application, attending a meeting, helping at or attending an event.

To reserve a table at Volunteer Link 2013, contact Toiresa at Union County CASA, 541-963-2993 or This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it prior to April 18. This year we are also asking that you email your organization’s logo and pictures of any volunteers from your organization participating in events you may have. This will be included in a power point presentation for community members to view while attending the Volunteer Link.
