A semi truck crashed on the east bound lane of
Interstate 84 in Ladd Canyon late Saturday night, forcing the closure of the freeway’s shoulder and one  lane of traffic for about three hours.

The accident was reported at 11:39 p.m. Saturday and the east bound portion of the freeway was not completely reopened until 3:16 a.m. Sunday, said Tom Strandberg of the Oregon Department of Transportation’s public affairs office.

One lane was kept closed to allow emergency vehicles to travel to and from the accident site.

A La Grande Fire and Ambulance crew was called to the accident but it is not known if anyone needed medical treatment or had to be transported to Grande Ronde Hospital.

A hazardous materials team contracted through ODOT was brought in to clean up fuel which leaked from the semi.

The accident occurred at milepost 276, which is south of the high point of Ladd Canyon.
