THE DALLES — The La Grande girls golf team hit the links for the first time in 2013 at The Dalles Invitational Tuesday.

Despite windy conditions throughout the day, the Lady Tigers managed a second-place finish among the 10-school, seven-team tournament.

LHS finished with a team score of 482, while Pendleton won with a 410.

“Not bad for our first tournament of the season,” assistant golf coach Jayne Baremore said.

Carrie Wallace was the Lady Tigers’ top placer, shooting a 98 to finish in fourth place in the individual standings.

Bree Wanderscheid of Goldendale finished in first after carding an 80. Pendleton’s Brittany Barns was second with an 87, McKenzie Schull of St. Helens was third with an 88, and Shelby Greb of Pendleton rounded out the top five with a 101.

Kayli Miles shot La Grande’s second-lowest score of the day with a 110, while Tessa VanLaarhoven carded a 133, Samantha Dunham shot a 141 and Cassidee Miller finished with a 148.

“We’ve been practicing for about a week and a half,” Baremore said.

“This is the first tournament, so some of the girls aren’t happy with their scores. But they’ll improve.”

The Lady Tigers will return to the links March 21 in Hermiston.

The La Grande boys golf team will kick of its bid for a third straight state title Friday in The Dalles.
