PENDLETON — The La Grande softball team opened the season against the Pendleton Bucks on Thursday, but the Lady Tigers came out on the wrong end of a 9-2 decision.

LHS took an early lead with a run in the top of the first, but things came undone for the Lady Tigers in the second inning, when the Bucks went off and scored seven runs.

Pendleton added another run in the fifth inning, before La Grande crossed home plate for the second time in the top of the seventh.

Emily Lawrence took the loss for La Grande, while sophomore Marissa Carson replaced her in the fifth inning and got some work in the circle.

Denise Comfort scored both of
La Grande’s runs, while Kali Avila added a double and Kori Clipfell chipped in with a single.

Rayne Spencer and Reeghan Lehnert both blasted home runs for Pendleton, while Ellie Richards added a triple.

Pendleton improves to 2-0 on the season after defeating McLoughlin 7-0 Tuesday.

“Pendleton is a good hitting team,” LHS head coach Kevin Kohr said.

“But overall I’m happy. I’m excited about this team. Everybody is working, everybody is hustling.”

The Lady Tigers will have some time off before returning to the field.

La Grande will play Taft March 28 at the McLoughlin Tournament in Milton-Freewater.

“That will be a good test for us,” Kohr said.
