La Grande sweeps Burns

BURNS — The La Grande baseball team pulled out a sweep of Burns Tuesday in non-league play.

The Tigers won the first game 11-9 before holding off the Hilanders for a 2-1 victory in Game 2.

“We didn’t play very well,” LHS head coach Mark Lanman said.

After exchanging the lead throughout Game 1, La Grande held a 5-4 lead after the sixth inning.

The Tigers then erupted for six runs in the top of the seventh. Burns rallied in the bottom half of the seventh with five runs, but La Grande was able to hold on for the win.

Kaleb White finished 1-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs. Eli Wisdom went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI, while Brandon Cedarholm was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Tanner Stremcha drove in a pair of runs while going 1-for-2 at the plate.

Four pitchers combined to allow four hits, with Stremcha getting the win, going 3 1/3 and striking out two.

Josh Gambill picked up the save in relief.

Game 2 saw a little less offense, with the Tigers scoring two runs in the fourth inning, before Burns attempted another seventh-inning rally.

But once again the Hilanders came up short and LHS secured the win.

Garret Avila finished 2-for-3, while Tyson Wicklander, Jake Chamberlain and Wisdom all had one hit.

Wisdom and Chamberlain drove in both of the Tigers’ runs.

Gambill got the win on the hill, pitching six innings and allowing two hits while striking out two.

Mitch Workinger got the save in relief.

La Grande will be back in action Friday in Ontario at the Treasure Valley
