La Grande boys golf team took fourth place at the Hermiston Invite Thursday.

The Tigers finished with a team score of 369, while Hermiston won the team scoring with a 340.

Pendleton finished second with a 353 and Milton-Freewater placed third with a 368.

“It’s not quite where we want to be,” LHS head coach Ron Evans said.

“But we’re getting closer. The kids know what the goal is (this season).”

La Grande was led by Jake Girard, who fired an 85, good for fifth place in the individual scoring.

Daniel Seymour was two strokes back with an 87, while James Laurence fired a 95.

Andrew Branen shot a 102, and Cole Laci finished with a 107 in his first high school tournament.

“The wind blew good all day long,” Evans said.

“I kind of felt bad for the kids. It was tough. But all of the boys played well.”

Pendleton’s Walker Hoolehan won the individual scoring after firing a 75. Zach Adams of Hermiston placed second with a 79, and Riley Hagerty of Pendleton finished third with  an 80.

Miles leads Lady Tigers

The La Grande girls golf team didn’t travel with a complete team on Thursday in Hermiston, but that didn’t stop Kayli Miles from having her best individual finish of her high school career.

Miles turned in a 97, just five strokes back of Pendleton’s Shelby Greb who won with a 92.

Tessa VanLaarhoven shot a 118 for the Lady Tigers, while Cassidee Miller turned in a 136.

“That is 40 strokes better than what those three girls did (last week),” LHS assistant coach Jayne Baremore said.

“The girls are happy with their improvement.”

Both the LHS boys and girls golf teams will return to action April 1 at
