Coffey wins 5K at Willamette

SALEM — Eastern Oregon's Karlee Coffey won the women's 5,000 meters at the Willamette University Invitational track meet Saturday.

Coffey won the race in 16 minutes, 56.06 seconds and edged Kristen Rohde of the Bowerman Athletic Club at the finish line by one second.

Coffey also ran in the 1,500 meters, placing 10th with a time of 4:40.42, but met the provisional qualifying standard for the NAIA championships in May. She missed the automatic NAIA mark by 32-hundredths of a second.

Coffey has the fastest 5,000 meter time in the NAIA with a time of 16:28.29 she ran at the Stanford Invitational March 29. Kelly Thompson of California State University-San Marcos is second with a 16:52.40 time.
