MILTON-FREEWATER — The La Grande softball team lost a pair of games to No. 3-ranked McLoughlin Friday in Greater Oregon League play.

The Lady Tigers fell 5-1 in the opener and lost 2-1 on a walk-off hit in the second game.

“It’s two losses, but it’s one of those things where you look at each other after it’s over and say, ‘Hey, two good teams collided on the field,’” LHS head coach Kevin Kohr said. “We played some good, quality softball (Friday).”

La Grande struck first in the opener, scoring a run in the top of the first inning.

But the Pioneers (17-5, 8-0) took the lead with a two-run second inning. McLoughlin added another run in the fifth and two in the sixth to cap the scoring.

Kali Avila took the loss, while Colette Roberts got the win.

In the nightcap, the Pioneers won on a walk-off blooper to right field by Stefanie Copeland in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Emily Lawrence pitched for LHS and took the loss. Madison Elliott had an RBI and a double.

La Grande (6-8, 3-5) will host Ontario Friday at 2 p.m.

Ontario is 2-16 overall and 0-8 in the GOL.
