LHS girls finish 2nd in Ontario

ONTARIO — The 
La Grande girls golf team took second place in Ontario Wednesday.

The Lady Tigers shot a team score of 423, 19 strokes back of first-place Ontario, which shot a 404.

Nyssa placed third with a 439, and Vale took fourth with a 520.

Individually, Ontario’s
Riley Helmick won top honors after carding an 86.

LHS took the second and third spots, with Kayli Miles firing a 93 and Carrie Wallace winning a tie-breaker over Nyssa’s Sara Martinez for third place with a 98.

La Grande’s Tessa VanLaarhoven shot her best score of the year with a 108, while Cassidee Miller shot a 124. 

Dez Kellogg carded a 134 for the Lady Tigers.

“Tessa is where we need her to be,” LHS head coach Jayne Baremore said.

“If we can get Cassidee down there, then districts could be pretty exciting.”

The Lady Tigers will be back in action today in Enterprise.

The district tournament is scheduled to begin Monday in Pendleton.

The state tournament is set for May 13-14 at Eagle Crest Ridge Course in
Redmond.
