A construction worker who fell 23 feet from the Lower Perry Bridge has died, according to officials with Kadlec Medical Center.

Karl D. “Bucko” Willhite, 25 of Klamath Falls, dies Saturday as a result of injuries sustained in a fall Wednesday afternoon. He was working on constructing a wooden platform when he fell and landed on rocks, according to the Union County Sheriff’s Office.

Willhite was transported by Life Flight to Kadlec Medical Center in Richland, Wash. Because he was an organ donor, his kidneys, heart and lungs were saved, according to a report from the Herald and News of Klamath Falls.

Willhite was employed with Oregon State Bridge Construction in Stayton, which was subcontracting with Oregon Mainline Paving for an Oregon Department of Transportation-funded project at the site of the accident. Medics and law enforcement officers were called to the scene at Interstate 84 exit 257 shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday.
