Funeral services for Lavon A. Korn, 81, of Wallowa will be June 27 at Alsap Funeral Home in Nampa, Idaho, and June 29 at St. Pius Catholic Church in Wallowa. Korn died June 11. Times of the services will be announced later. Bollman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

La Grande

June L. Dewey, 95, La Grande, died today at a local retirement residence. A full obituary will be published later. Loveland Funeral Chapel & Crematory will be handling the arrangements.

Glenn H. Spilker, 91, La Grande, died Saturday at La Grande Post Acute Rehab. A full obituary will be published later. Loveland Funeral Chapel & Crematory will be handling the arrangements. A celebration of life will be held at 

10 a.m. Friday at Loveland.

 Brenda Jones



Brenda Jones, 78, of Enterprise died June 12.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Bollman Funeral Home with a graveside service following at 1 p.m. at Enterprise Cemetery. A dinner for family and friends will be held following the service at the Community Church.

Brenda was born Dec. 25, 1934, in Liverpool, England, to Thomas and Evelyn (Cohen) Milner. Brenda grew up in Liverpool and married Jimmie Jones, who was stationed at Burtonwood Air Force Base, England.

Brenda loved the United States and became a naturalized citizen on Jan. 18, 1973.

She enjoyed camping, patio gardening, knitting, walking and home improvement projects. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Wallowa Mountain Red Hat Society.

Most of all, Brenda enjoyed activities with her family and friends.

Brenda is survived by her son, Max Jones of Enterprise; daughter, Pier Jones of
La Grande, a sister, Betty Jones of Liverpool; a brother, Gordon Milner of Australia; and one grandson.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in care of Bollman Funeral Home, 315 W. Main St., Enterprise OR 97828. 

‘Bear’ Sidney Ulysses Stratos



“Bear” Sidney Ulysses Stratos, 63, of Union, died June 12 at his home. A viewing will take place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday at Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center, 1502 Seventh St. in La Grande. A celebration of his life will be held at 

2:30 p.m. Thursday at Catherine Creek State Park.

Bear was born on May 13, 1950, in Hoopa, Calif., and was raised by loving parents, George Stratos, Jr. and Caroline and Frank Montgomery in California. He was one of 19 children. He was a lifelong student and was near earning his master’s degree. 

He came to Oregon in the early 1970s and moved to the Catherine Creek/Medical Springs area. On July 26, 1986, he married Cheryl Paprock in Roseburg. He worked for the Forest Service in range services and loved being in the outdoors. He was also a firefighter and ran prison crews for the Forest Service.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working cows and building fence. He loved his Harley Davidson and working on it when he had the time and enjoyed watching westerns with his daughter.

Survivors include his wife, Cheryl of Union; children, Caroline Katherine Stratos of La Grande, Jason Stratos of Yreka, Calif., and Jona Lynn Stratos of Redding, Calif.; four granddaughters; one grandson; two great-grandchildren; sister, Marjeana Caroline Whitson and other relatives. He was preceded in death by Caroline and Frank Montgomery; a son, Sidney “Shotgun” Stratos in 1998; and father, George Stratos Jr. three years ago.
