Barbara May Phelps Bloom

Cove

1926-2013

Barbara May Phelps Bloom, 87, of Cove, died June 20.

A graveside service will be held at the Cove Cemetery at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Barbara was born May 9, 1926, in Sacramento, Calif., where she lived much of her younger life. She married Edward A. Bloom in 1954 and moved to his hometown of Cove. Edward preceded her in death in 1999.

Barbara was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for more than 50 years. During that period, she taught Sunday school, primary and was in the Relief Society.

She loved music and had a beautiful voice. She sang in the church choir and was often asked to perform solos for special occasions.

Bobbie, as she was known to her friends, had many hobbies. She knitted bandages for lepers, canned fruit from her trees and spent many quiet hours reading.

She loved to work in her yard, often bringing home half-dead bargain plants and nursing them back to health.

For a time she was a prolific painter, and her home was filled with painting projects and pictures she had done.

Genealogy was a special passion, and she spent many hours in the genealogical library gathering family
history.

She is survived by a brother, Boyd Phelps; a sister, Beverly Leonard; five children, Cherie Murray, Whitey Bloom, Tom Martin, Ann Bloom-Dickison and Rick Bloom; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Her daughter, Patty Dwerlkotte, died in 1985.
