Mable Edith Boots



Mable Edith Boots, 79, of Elgin, died at her home July 20. 

A celebration of her life will be held at the Elgin Christian Life Center at
2 p.m. Saturday. Memorial services will also be held in Coos Bay at 1 p.m. Aug. 18 at Shore Acres House.

Mable was born on Oct. 5, 1933, in Coos Bay to Lincoln and Mildred (Johnson) Royce. She grew up in Coos Bay, where she graduated Marshfield High School. In 1950, she married Dean Boots. 

Mable enjoyed caring for her home and family. Her greatest achievement was her family. She loved them all deeply.

Mable was an active member of her church. She loved to cook. She enjoyed mushroom picking, rock hunting, bird watching and looking at wildflowers. Her greatest love, however, was being with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mable is survived by her spouse, Dean, of Elgin; her children, John Boots and his wife, Peggy, of Elgin; Mary Morse of Coos Bay; Deanna Brown of Coos Bay; 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; and four nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Bob Boots; and grandson, Nathan Melton.

 Patrick M. Asper

Long-time La Grande resident

A memorial service for Patrick M. Asper will be held at 1 p.m. Aug. 9 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS)  Third Ward chapel, 1100 McAllister Road, Island City. This is just off of Cove Avenue (or Buchanan Lane) about one mile east of Interstate 84 near Exit 261. There will be a reception and light refreshments after the service.

Asper was a long-time resident of La Grande, having lived here for about 30 years. He grew up on a cattle ranch in the Telocaset-Thief Valley area and was a graduate of Union High School.

 Asper died a few minutes before midnight on July 17 in the St Luke’s Regional Medical Center in Boise, Idaho, as a result of complication from diabetes. He was 77 years old.

A service for Stephen Andrew Isley, 59, of Joseph, will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday at Joseph Baptist Church. A reception will follow. Isley died July 28. A full obituary will appear later.

La Grande

A celebration of life service for Frances McCall of La Grande will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church in La Grande. Loveland Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
