VALE — Turnovers and the ability to score off those miscues told the story of the La Grande football game Friday.

The Tigers went to Vale looking for a repeat performance of 2011, a 25-19 win, but left with a 48-13 loss, falling to 0-3 this season.

La Grande struggled most through the air. Despite completing 13-of-26 passes for 163 yards and two scores, quarterback Brandon Dall threw five interceptions.

“We have to take care of the ball,” La Grande head coach Kenny Mace said. “The effort was there for the most part. We just need to sustain it throughout the game and eliminate the mistakes.”

La Grande made some ground with an Alec Cranford 14-yard touchdown reception  with five seconds left to go in the first half.

The Vikings took the ensuing kickoff 66 yards to push the lead back to 21 points headed into the locker room.

“Instead of coming out in the third quarter trying to get back within seven points, we’re trying to cut the lead back in half. It’s tough to lose momentum like that,” Mace said.

La Grande had 258 yards of total offense, with 163 through the air and 95 on the ground.

Jared Rodgers led the Tigers on the ground with 43 yards rushing and added three receptions for 26 yards and a touchdown. La Grande travels to Burns for a 7 p.m.
