Cove netters beat Union, fall to Joseph

COVE — The Cove volleyball team had mixed results this weekend. The Leopards picked up a 3-1 (25-21, 20-25, 25-18, 25-11) non-league victory over Union Friday but fell to Joseph 3-1 (14-25, 23-25, 25-18, 18-25) Saturday.

“I really thought we improved on some things during the week,” Cove head coach Darcy Carreiro said. “Friday we focused on distributing the ball equally. We improved our ball control. But against Joseph, we just had an off night.”

Against the Lady Cats, Hannah Hulse had 13 digs, nine kills and six serving aces for Cove. McKayla Murchison added six kills and four digs, while Hailey Hulse had eight blocks and five kills. Skyla DeLint had seven digs and four serving aces.

Union missed three serves in the match. Viki McCabe led Union with 12 kills, Maddie Martens had nine kills and Keesha Sarman had seven digs.

In Saturday’s loss to Joseph, Hailey Hulse had 13 kills, 10 digs and eight blocks for Cove. Murchison had seven digs and six kills, and Hannah Hulse had 13 digs and seven kills.

Cove plays at Imbler Thursday starting at
5:30 p.m.

Union went 2-0 at a three-way Saturday, picking up sweeps of both Elgin and Irrigon. The Lady Cats travel to play Grant Union Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Badgers pick up wins

The Powder Valley volleyball team won two matches over the weekend. The Badgers beat Notus, Idaho, Friday 26-24, 32-30, 26-24.

“The team gave a balanced effort with a strong serve receive and strong play defensively,” Powder Valley head coach Lasa Baxter said.

 Alexandra Colton had 26 assists and 15 serves for the Badgers. Taylor Martin had 11 digs and three kills, Alyssa Aldrich had 13 kills, and McKinsey Hampton had nine kills.

Powder Valley picked up an Old Oregon League win over Pine Eagle Saturday. The Badgers won 23-24, 25-23, 25-14, 25-17.

Jenna Aldrich finished with 22 digs, Martin had 18 digs and Alyssa Aldrich had 13 kills.

“We had a much stronger serving night than the previous night, dropping only five serves for the match to the Spartans,” Baxter said.

Imbler drops Spartans

HALFWAY — The Imbler volleyball team remained unbeaten with a sweep over Pine Eagle Friday.

The Panthers won 25-12, 25-10, 25-11.

“It was great overall team play,” Imbler head coach Jennifer Teeter said.

Jacey Teeter finished with 28 assists and 13 digs for Imbler. 

Malia Mills added 10 kills and six digs, and both Emma Bowers and Ally Fullerton had four kills.

Hannah Wilhelm went 11-for-11 serving with an ace and three kills, and Jessica McDaniel was 10-for-10 serving in the third-set victory.
