Police ask for help in alleged assault

La Grande police are seeking information on a possible assault that occurred early Friday morning or Thursday night.

Lt. Derick Reddington said it was around 4 a.m. Friday when police were called to a Penn Avenue home where two transients had awoken a resident. Two men from Irrigon reported they had been assaulted and robbed.

“They are reporting that not only were they assaulted but they were robbed of a few hundred dollars,” Reddington said.

Their stories, however, don’t necessarily match.

“They’re fairly uncooperative with investigators,” Reddington said.

One of the men had visible injuries to his face and head. The other did not have any observable injuries, but they were both taken to Grande Ronde Hospital, police said. The man with visible injuries was treated while the other refused treatment.

Reddington said police are seeking information on the incident even though “We don’t have any factual basis ... that this occurred in our city.”

Police did not receive any other reports of an incident and did not find a crime scene.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Detective Scott Whittington at 541-963-1017.
