Tigers fall to Burns

BURNS — The La Grande football team went searching for its first win of the season in Burns, and the Tigers left just short.

Burns ran out the clock after fielding an onside kick following a Tigers’ score and saved a 25-23 win at home.

La Grande had its best game against the Hilanders, a Class 3A school, gaining 228 yards through the air.

Quaterback Brandon Dall completed 11-of-18 pass attempts for 228 yards with two touchdowns. 

The final one was a nine-yard pass to Brandon Cerdarholm that brought the Tigers back within three points.

Dall also finished with a big drive before the end of the first half to keep La Grande in striking distance. 

Alec Cranford reeled in a 26-yard pass for a touchdown as time expired, sending the Tigers into the locker room trailing 19-14 at the half.

Cranford finished with 156 yards receiving on six receptions. 

The sophomore also finished as the leading rusher, gaining 57 yards on three attempts.

La Grande finished with 116 yards on the ground.

The Tigers (0-4) will host Weiser, Idaho, at 7 p.m. Friday at Community Stadium.
