William E. Bronson



William E. Bronson, 91, of Union, died at his home with his family by his side on Oct. 1. He was 91 years old. Funeral services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Union at 1 p.m. Saturday. Interment with military honors will follow at the Union Cemetery.

Bill, affectionately known as “Bronski,” was born Oct. 31, 1921 on Vashon Island, Wash., to Vernon and Olive (Curtis) Bronson. He resided in Warrenton before moving to Union in 1994. Bill attended Acosta (Washington) grade school, Aberdeen High School and continued his education at the Oregon Police Academy. Bill served the country in the Navy during World War II as a tail gunner in the South Pacific, where his plane was shot down. His parachute was shredded so the captain crash-landed their plane. 

After graduating from the Police Academy, Bill became the chief of police in Warrenton until his retirement. He received several appreciation awards during his time of being chief of police.

Bill married Marion in 1962, and the couple was later divorced He then married Betty in 1963. He was
a loving father, and he
and Betty raised seven children.

Bill enjoyed hunting and excelled at track and field for which he received many honors and track medals. His most prized medal is from the Nike World Games, where he won three gold medals competing against more than 30 countries

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, American Legion, VFW and the National Rifle Association.

Bill is survived by his wife, Betty of Union; seven children, Robert Bronson of Washougal, Wash.; Toni Kawalis and her husband, John, of Salem; John McDonald of Parma, Idaho; Kevin McDonald and his wife, Wynne, of Twin Falls, Idaho; Kara McDonald and her husband, Gary, of Lebanon; Erin Bronson and his wife, Teresa, Williams of Parma; Andrew Bronson of Chehalis, Wash.; brother, Jack Bronson and his wife, Dorothy, of Washington; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 20 nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Ruth Ably and Robert

Kenneth W. Hanson, 82, of Island City, died at St. Luke’s Hospital in Boise, Idaho, on Monday. A full obituary will be available later. Loveland Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
