Kenneth W. Hanson

Island City

Kenneth W. Hanson, 82, of Island City, died at St. Luke’s Hospital in Boise, Idaho, on Sept. 30. At his request, no services will be held. Loveland Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Ken was born March 11, 1931, in Aitkin, Minn., to George and Hildur (Anderson) Hanson. After his family moved to Portland, Ken attended Franklin High School. He served his country for six years in the United States Army in communications. He was stationed in Arlington, Va., and Korea and Japan.

Ken married Kathleen Austin in 1955. They lived in Portland and Springdale. After retiring from U.S. West (Pacific Northwest Bell), they moved to Island City in 1992.

Ken was a past member of the Island City Lions Club. He served on the Island City City Council and the cemetery board and enjoyed taking all the backroads he could find just “checking out where they go.” A daily “sharing of the coffee” with friends started out most days for Ken.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy; children, Kerry (Karen) Hanson of Vancouver, Wash.; Steven (Rikk) Hanson of San Francisco; Patti (Rick) Tuttle, of Walla Walla, Wash.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his brother, Donald (Betty) Hanson; sister, Jeanette VanSlyke; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Rosalyn, Kermit and Warren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army. Send donations to Loveland Funeral Chapel, 1508 Fourth St., La Grande OR 97850.
