After more than a year serving in an interim role, Anji Weissenfluh has been named the official athletic director at Eastern Oregon University, the school announced Monday.

Weissenfluh served as the acting director of athletics since July 1, 2012.

“Anji epitomizes what I expect from our student-athletes and our athletic department,” EOU President Bob Davies said in a statement. “Her dedication to Eastern Oregon and our community is unparalleled. She is a joy to work with, and I have learned many lessons from her since my time here at EOU. I know she will excel with this permanent
appointment.”

Under Weissenfluh’s leadership, nine of the 12 EOU sports teams participated in either Cascade Conference postseason action and/or NAIA national championships. The Mountaineers also finished third in the CCC All-Sports Trophy standings and third in the CCC Presidents’ Cup standings.

Eastern Oregon also saw its highest finish in the NAIA Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup at 25th. The Mountaineers sold out the Booster Club Scholarship Golf Scramble for the first time in history and saw a net revenue of $13,000, a new tournament record.

Weissenfluh has been the head women’s basketball coach at EOU for the past 14 seasons. She leads the Mountaineers on the all-time career wins list for women’s basketball. Weissenfluh has coached Eastern Oregon’s women’s basketball to its best season in school history last year.
