MILTON-FREEWATER — The La Grande boys soccer team saw its two-game winning streak come to an end, dropping a 3-0 decision to Mac-Hi Tuesday in Milton-Freewater.

La Grande kept pace with the Pioneers through the first half, with the match scoreless at the intermission.

“We played well for the most part,” Tigers co-head coach Wade Wright said. “But you have to play with the goal to win, rather than playing not to lose.”

The Pioneers got on the board in the 51st minute on a corner kick. Mac-Hi’s last two goals came off penalty kicks.

“Corner kicks are tough,” Wright said. “It takes a player being in the right place at the right time. The match was a lot closer than the score would indicate.

“We were hoping to be at the point where we could get a win against them this year. The program has come a long way over the last couple of seasons. But, there is still more work to do.”

La Grande fell to 1-3-0 in the GOL and 3-7-0 overall. The Pioneers stayed perfect in the GOL with a 4-0-0 mark. Mac-Hi is 10-1-1 overall.

The Tigers will travel to Ontario Friday for a 4 p.m. match.

In the last meeting Ontario won 3-2.
