Huskies maul Cougars, 60-16

ELGIN — The Elgin football team ended a two-game skid with a 60-16 victory over visiting Echo Friday night.

The win improves the Huskies to 4-2 overall this season in their inaugural season at the 8-man level.

Chris Roberts got the scoring started early in the first quarter when he broke free on a 16-yard touchdown run on the second play of the drive. Jordan Vermillion followed with a 41-yard trot to paydirt to make it 15-0 with 23 seconds left in the first quarter.

Gage Little connected with Gavin Christensen on a 60-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter before hauling in a short touchdown pass from Jake Burgess to send the Huskies to the locker room up 30-0 at halftime.

Elgin stretched the lead to 54-0 before the Cougars found the end zone with 8:34 left in the fourth quarter.
