Island City man arrested during drug raid

ISLAND CITY — One man was arrested by law enforcement officers late Thursday afternoon in Island City following a raid made to curb drug trafficking.


Joshua Ryan Alvarez, 21, of Island City was arrested at his residence at 10100 S. Sterling St. in Island City on charges of possession of a controlled substance, distribution of a controlled substance and manufacture of a controlled substance.

“The arrest was made to intercept and interrupt drug trafficking,'' said Capt. Craig Ward of the Union County Sheriff's Department.

Ward said that illegal drugs were located but no other details were provided.

The raid was made at 5:40 p.m. by law enforcement officers armed with a search warrant. The agencies involved included the Union-Wallowa Drug Task Force, Oregon State Police, Union County Sheriff's Office and La Grande Police Department.

Alvarez is set to appear in Union County Circuit Court at 9 a.m. on Nov. 26.
