A 20-year-old La Grande man was arrested Tuesday morning on charges of kidnapping, reckless endangerment and pointing a firearm at others.

La Grande Police Chief Brian Harvey said the charges stem from an Oct. 11 incident that was not immediately reported to police. A LGPD detective learned of the incident from officials with the Department of Human Services and by word of mouth.

Marcus Kyle McKinney was arrested on four counts of kidnapping, five counts of reckless endangerment, four counts of menacing and five counts of pointing a firearm at another person.

The October incident occurred at a house gathering when McKinney got upset and confronted some people at the party at gunpoint, Harvey said. He then “directed them from outside the house to inside the house,” which is where kidnapping charges came into play, Harvey said.

It is unclear what exactly caused the disagreement and confrontation.

Harvey said the event is unusual for La Grande, especially since no one at the scene reported it.

“As witnesses came forward we got a better view of the big picture,” Harvey said. “It was very good work by the primary detective.”
