Stephen Alfred Anderson, 47, of Elgin, died on Dec. 3. A memorial service will be announced later.

He was born on Sept. 19, 1966, in La Grande to James and Sharon (Pope) Anderson. Steve graduated from Elgin High School and was a longtime resident of Elgin until a recent move to La Grande. Over the years, he overcame many medical complications, and he always exuded a generous and loving spirit even through the rough times, family members said.

Steve loved to spend time fishing in the local lakes and rivers with his dad. He traveled to Alaska many times for big fishing adventures with extended family.

He was a regular at the Elgin Community Center and was easily recognized with his big smile, easy laugh and coffee in hand.

He is survived by his parents, Jim and Sharon Anderson in Elgin; sister, Carol, and nephews and niece, Garth, Levi, Ivan and Jenna.

The family wishes to make a special thanks to Diane Hill, Mark Parmentier, Justin and all his friends at Diane’s Enhanced Care.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Elgin Fire Department in care of Loveland Funeral Chapel, 1508 Fourth St., La Grande, OR 97850.
