ISLAND CITY – A fire was reported at the Boise Cascade Particleboard Plant in Island City during the lunch hour Monday. The fire was extinguished around 2 p.m.

La Grande Rural Fire Department responded to the fire, which was believed to start in the a dryer. La Grande Rural Fire Chief Larry Wooldridge said the fire then traveled into the cyclones and out the piping into the plant's baghouse.

"The difficulty was finding exactly where it was in the piping system," Wooldridge said.

Wooldridge said there was no real damage to the plant, except for down time it must spend drying everything off.

Boise Cascade has not yet released any statement about the incident.

La Grande Rural Fire was assisted by La Grande Fire Department and Cove Fire Department.
