George Hardy

Unity

George Hardy, 85, died at his home in Unity on Dec. 5.  A rosary will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Cathedral in Baker City followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m.

Friends are invited to join the family for a reception to be held immediately following at the church.

 


LeRoy ‘Roy’ Hills

Island City

LeRoy “Roy” Hills, 90, of Island City, died Dec. 9 at his home. A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Summerville Baptist Church.

Sharon Louise Weinberger

Formerly of La Grande

1940-2013

Sharon Weinberger, formerly of La Grande, died Dec. 5 at her home in DuPont, Wash. She was 73. 

Sharon was born on March 5, 1940 in Willamina to Norman and Lucille Thorn. She grew up in Eugene with her six siblings, graduating from South Eugene High School in 1958. She married Robert (Bob) Weinberger in 1968. In 1974, they moved to La Grande, where they raised their two children. Four years ago, they relocated to DuPont.

Throughout her life, Sharon was known for the kindness and compassion she showed to others. She was an avid and accomplished quilter, sewer and crafter, and was actively involved at First Christian Church, 4-H and Union County Extension for many years. She enjoyed art, genealogy and most of all spending time with her family and friends. 

Sharon is survived by her husband, Bob; her son, Carl, and his wife, Dawn, of Hillsboro; her daughter, Sheryl, and her husband, Oliver Papp, of Minnetonka, Minn.; her sister, Darlene Austin; her brother, Ronald Thorn; and three granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Lorene, and three brothers, Clifford, Alvin and David. 

Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service in her honor at 11 a.m. Jan. 11 at Calvary Chapel Worship Center in Hillsboro. 

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent to the Lewy Body Dementia Association or the Children’s Organ Transplant Association. 

 


 

Edith Jessie Byerly

Elgin

1940-2013

A funeral service for Edith Jessie Byerly, 73, of Elgin took place Dec. 4 at the Latter-day Saints Church in Enterprise, and burial followed at the Lostine Cemetery. Edith died Nov. 30. 

Edith was born Sept. 19, 1940, in Yakima, Wash., worked in education and belonged to the LDS Church. She loved to can and preserve food.

Survivors include her spouse, Robert Dean Byerly; children, Tony (Cynthia) Purinton and Cheri (Irvin) Norton; and siblings, Maravene Agee, Jennette Secolo, Dorie Lesser, Larry Lesser and Lois Sanders; four grandchildren and one step-grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.

Dying earlier were siblings Easter Williams, Paul Wilson, Joella Schnell and Merrill Wilson.
